Another Tragic Suicide

It’s been a while since I’ve stopped writing for Mobile World but I still do get emails and calls from my readers even till today. Nothing cheers you up more than people who like what you write, if you were to ask me.

But I received a really sad one recently.

A stranger called me out of the blue pleading for my help. He wants to know if there is any way in which I could assist to purge copies of a file that has been circulating on the Internet. The file in question is actually a 3-minute pornographic video clip of a Singaporean Malay girl.

Apparently, the video is that of his 22-year old niece. The 3GP file allegedly shows her in full nudity while engaging in various sexual activities with her ex-boyfriend. Spiteful after being told to end the relationship, the revengeful lover purportedly gave the file away to several of his friends.

The video has since been making its round on local pornographic forums and file sharing networks. According to the uncle, the file is so widespread that it ended up in the hands of the family’s relatives who often teased her during the last Hari Raya visits.

Drowned in humiliation, she committed suicide about a month ago by leaping from her bedroom window. According to the uncle, her body was so mangled that they had to keep the “kain kafan” (burial shroud) sealed throughout the eerily somber funeral ceremony.

The 40-day anniversary of her death is approaching soon and her family members and close friends are thinking of holding a gathering at her parents’ flat to offer prayers for her soul. The Malays call it a “kenduri” and it is largely believed to offer some reprise for the dead. Besides, it is an opportunity for the family to gain closure over the tragedy.

But before the prayers, the family is appealing to all those who are having the file to delete and cease it from distribution. With a heavy heart, I had to explain to the uncle that it is not possible to simply “purge” a file on a sex forum without the intervention of the site’s owners.

I pray that her soul will finally be at peace.

Tips For Those Who Record

I have no idea why but recording yourself while having sex seems to be a growing trend among our youth now. And judging from the number of videos that are circulating on the Internet, Malay youths are getting notorious for yet another wrong reason. What’s up dudes? Is it really that thrilling to see yourself as a wiggly porn star pumping away like a crazy goose?

But if somehow you have the insatiable itch to store naked videos of yourself on your phone or camera, here are some tips to remember:

1. Turn off your Bluetooth. There are perverts with software out there that can intercept your phone and go through your files without your knowledge. It’s called Blue Snarfing and it does not require your permission for file transfers to occur. Turn it on only when it’s needed. This might just save you from being the next “big thing” on the Internet.

2. Do not trade in your memory card together with your phone. Data on digital media such as MMC and SD cards may be resurrected even after they are deleted. There are special tools in which you can do this, very much like reviving a dead hard drive. So check your expansion slots when you trade in your phone. It might just save your dignity. Remember, you cannot actually call it a “private” part when it can be viewed by millions on the Internet.

3. For the love of God, keep your hand phone by your side all the time. This may sound basic but you will be surprised to know that many of these accidental porn stars are actually muttonheads who have carelessly left their phone at bus stops, food courts, libraries etc.

4. Use non-digital media if you really need to immortalize your “special moments”. The irony with technology is that the more advanced it gets, the easier it is to record, transmit and intercept your files. Go back to the old VHS instead. It may be grainy but at least it’s not that easy to intercept.

Stop wanking, you pervert. I don’t know which is more pathetic, the fact that you cannot get real sex of your own, or the fact that you have to resort to pornography to get your load off. Get a real life people. I think it’s just sick that you actually forward private moments of other people around.

The poor girl may have committed suicide, but as far as I see it, the file forwarders have her blood on their hands, especially that ex-boyfriend of hers. I wonder how they sleep at night.
